Quentin Tarantino may have found the leading man for his 10th — and allegedly final — film.
Deadline has reported that Brad Pitt has joined the cast of “The Movie Critic,” Tarantino’s new film set in 1970s Los Angeles that is expected to shoot later this year. While the report did not specify which role Pitt is playing, it could indicate that Pitt is on board to star as the eponymous critic. IndieWire has reached out to Tarantino and Pitt’s representatives for comment.
The casting would mark a reunion between Tarantino and one of his favorite collaborators. Pitt previously starred in Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” the latter of which won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
While few official details are known about the project, Tarantino has teased that “The Movie Critic” will center around a film critic who reviews movies for a pornographic magazine. The director has stated that the film was inspired by his early years working in adult movie theaters, where he stocked vending machines with porn magazines and found himself intrigued by one writer.
“All the other stuff was too skanky to read but then there was this porno rag that had a really interesting movie page,” Tarantino said in a 2023 interview about the project. “He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic. Think about Travis’ diary entries.”
