Zack Snyder‘s fan favorite “Rebel Moon” is wrapping up with its second half landing on Netflix.
Per the official synopsis, space opera “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” “continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.”
The ensemble cast includes Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, and Anthony Hopkins. Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, Elise Duffy, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi, and Snyder’s “Justice League” actor Ray Fisher co-star.
Director Snyder co-wrote the film with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten; the filmmaker additionally produced “Rebel Moon” along with wife Deborah Snyder, Eric Newman, and Wesley Coller. Writers Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad executive produce in addition to Bergen Swanson and Sarah Bowen.
“Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire” premiered in December 2023. Snyder previously announced that rated-R versions of both “Rebel Moon” halves, with an hour of additional footage, will be released. The filmmaker recently said during an appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast that due to the “crazy” Netflix distribution model, “more people probably saw ‘Rebel Moon’ than saw ‘Barbie’ in the theater.”
“Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire” was Netflix’s top movie globally for the week of December 18, 2023 to December 24, 2023, with 23.9 million views. It was again no. 1 the following week, when it added 34 million more views.
Snyder added, “It’s a different model… you give the audience an alternative. Like what is ‘Rebel Moon’…that’s new IP, right? No one knows what the fuck that is. Some space thing, I guess. Well, let’s watch it. The barrier for entry is so low that it allows a lot more original and weirdo stuff to exist.”
“Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” premieres April 19 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
