Jack Quaid has a tough time going to Katz’s Delicatessen in New York City for a very, um, “unique” reason.
Quaid, whose mother is “When Harry Met Sally” icon Meg Ryan, admitted that it’s a “very unique embarrassment” to be in the deli where Ryan faked an orgasm for the beloved rom-com.
“It’s funny, my son [Jack Quaid] just called me this morning and he’s in New York staying at a hotel that’s right across the street from Katz’s Deli,” Ryan told Interview magazine while in conversation with Carol Burnett. “My daughter [Daisy True Ryan] was here and everybody was on speaker, and they were like, ‘Mom, this is a very unique embarrassment.’”
Ryan continued of Quaid, “He said, ‘You know you can go into that deli and there’s an arrow pointing down to the table where you shot that scene.’”
Quaid admitted to InStyle in 2019 that while filming Hulu rom-com “Plus One,” he couldn’t even talk about “When Harry Met Sally.”
“In the rehearsal process we were talking about rom-coms and ‘When Harry Met Sally’ came up and I made the confession that I had never seen [it],” Quaid said. “It’s one of those things, where if you really think about it, you don’t want to see your mom having a fake orgasm in a deli when you’re growing up. I avoided it.”
However, Quaid did eventually watch the film, which co-starred Billy Crystal and Carrie Fisher.
“I watched the movie, because I’m doing a rom-com, I have to watch the rom-com, and the movie’s so much more than that scene,” Quaid said. “I was so unbelievably proud of my mom — I called her sobbing, like ‘I’m so proud of you!’ and she like ‘Ah, cool!’ She was excited I’d seen it, and then I came into rehearsal that day still sobbing and it was this weird moment where I’m like ‘Guys, I’m just so proud of my mom!‘ I was thinking about the New Year’s scene in the movie and I was just like ‘Oh God.’ I learned so much — she didn’t have to give me any tips — I just watched what she did, it was incredible.”
