Britney Spears‘ “The Woman in Me” might be on the big screen, just not with Margot Robbie producing — or playing her.
Spears’ bestselling memoir, which already landed even more star power thanks to Oscar winner Michelle Williams’ viral narration of the audiobook, will be adapted for a film or TV project. Page Six reported that “multiple sources” hinted that Robbie’s LuckyChap production company was interested in adapting Spears’ book, along with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Brad Pitt’s Plan B.
However, at the 2023 Variety Power of Women Los Angeles event, Robbie confirmed to Access Hollywood in the below video that the rumor of LuckyChap’s possible involvement were “not true.”
“No, I’m just hearing that tonight. It’s not true,” Robbie said.
Robbie added when asked if she would ever consider playing Spears, “It’s not true, it’s not true.”
Robbie’s LuckyChap was behind blockbuster “Barbie,” directed by Greta Gerwig, and Emerald Fennell’s upcoming “Saltburn.”
To note, Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine was the studio that backed “Big Little Lies” and a slew of other TV-centered productions. Pitt’s Plan B produced “She Said” and “Blonde” in 2022.

“Crossroads” screenwriter turned mega-producer Shonda Rhimes is not among the producers looking to take on “The Woman in Me.” Spears starred in the 2002 film during which she said she Method acted. A spokesperson for Rhimes’ production company told Page Six that “Shondaland is not pursuing this project.”
“Toxic” Grammy winner Spears opted to not pursue an acting career after “Crossroads.” The singer detailed her audition for “The Notebook” but wrote in “The Woman in Me” that she was “glad” she didn’t land the lead role.
“If I had, instead of working on my album ‘In the Zone’ I’d have been acting like a 1940s heiress day and night,” Spears said of potentially starring in the period piece romance.
Spears took to social media in November 2022 prior to her book’s 2023 release to shut down the idea of a biopic about her life.
“I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life…dude I’m not dead !!!” Spears captioned after “Stranger Things” breakout star Millie Bobby Brown said during “The Drew Barrymore Show” that she wanted to “tell [Spears’] story in the right way” by playing her.
