‘We Need To Talk About Kevin’ Moves Back One Week To December 9th
Next year, you’re going to have make a decision on Christmas Day: the brand new movie from one of America’s most celebrated filmmakers or a literary adaptation from Australia’s master of big screen spectacles? And oh yeah, Leonardo DiCaprio is in both movies.
Warner Bros. has now scheduled Baz Luhrmann‘s “The Great Gatsby” for December 25, 2012, putting it square up against Quentin Tarantino‘s “Django Unchained.” We know which one your grandma would rather see. Based on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, ‘Gatsby’ has a stellar cast lined up with Leonardo DiCaprio as the wealthy and mysterious Jay Gatsby; Carey Mulligan as Gatsby’s love, Daisy Buchanan; Isla Fisher as Myrtle, a married woman having an affair with Tom Buchanan played by Joel Edgerton; Jason Clarke as George Wilson, Myrtle’s husband; Tobey Maguire portrays protagonist Nick Carraway; and Australian newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as Carraway’s love interest, Jordan Baker. The film is now rolling in front of cameras in Australia and with next December already lined up “Les Miserables,” “Life of Pi,” “This Is Forty,” “World War Z” and most importantly, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” it’s already a major logjam of movies. Who will move, who will lose and who will prevail? We shall find out in due course.
Meanwhile, Oscilloscope Pictures has quietly pushed back Lynne Ramsay‘s astonishing and devastating “We Need to Talk About Kevin” back one week to December 9th. But don’t let that stop you from seeing Tilda Swinton giving one of the best performances of the year. [BoxOfficeMojo]
