Eddie Redmayne Joins ‘Les Miserables’ As Marius

Already conquering the stage, with a Tony award under this belt for his turn in “Red,” Eddie Redmayne is now looking to conquer the film world as well. He’s got a meaty co-starring role in the forthcoming “My Week With Marilyn” and has the indie flick “Hick” in the bag with Blake Lively and Chloe Moretz. Now he’s jumping onto a project that is already locked and loaded for the 2012 Oscar season.

Tom Hooper is following up his awards-sweeping “The King’s Speech” with the star-studded “Les Miserables” and Deadline reports that Redmayne has come aboard in the role of Marius, the student revolutionary, who is friends with Éponine, but falls in love with Cosette. He joins some pretty great talent, with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Inspector Jalvert and Anne Hathaway as Fantine. Still lots of big roles to get officially cast, and the way this is going, it’s going to be quite a production with a helluva group of people coming together to bring it to life.

Production is set to begin early next year for a December 7, 2012 release date. But before he gets busy on Hooper’s film, Redmayne will squeeze in a stage turn in “Richard II” at Donmar Warehouse opening on December 1st.
