With the release date just a little more than three months away, we’re surprised we haven’t even gotten a trailer yet, but it looks like the promotional machine for “Safe House” is slowly kicking into gear as the first official image has arrived over at Cine Pop.
Marking the Hollywood debut of “Snabba Cash” helmer Daniel Espinosa, and featuring a hot script by David Guggenheim, the film centers on a young U.S. intelligence agent (Ryan Reynolds) who must go on the run with a newly arrived prisoner (Denzel Washington, pictured looking quite badass) after his titular safe house comes under attack by assassins. We’ve read the script by Guggenheim—described as a mix between “Collateral” and “Three Days of the Condor”—and felt it was a solid thriller, though missing a bit depth, something we hope Terry George (”Hotel Rwanada,” “In the Name of the Father”) brought to the movie in his rewrite.
This one boasts a helluva supporting cast including Brendan Gleeson, Liam Cunningham, Sam Shepard, Robert Patrick, Tim McGraw, Vera Farmiga and Joel Kinnaman and with Espinosa at the helm, we’re anticipating some solid popcorn entertainment. “Safe House” hits theaters on February 10, 2012.
