H&M Launches ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Fashion Line Created By Film’s Costume Designer

In case it hasn’t been made apparent by the recent cover story for Vogue and the Jean-Baptiste Mondino photo spread for Le Monde, you’re going to be seeing a lot more of Rooney Mara in the coming weeks and months as “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” begins to roll out worldwide. And with the studio looking at the film to kickstart a franchise, both movie moguls and tastemakers see a potential style icon in the making, and the Telegraph reports that H&M are preparing to launch an entire fashion line inspired by “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”

And this just isn’t some cash grab with a bunch of gothy looking black clothing being throw onto store shelves, either. The Swedish retailer has actually teamed up with Trish Summerville, the costume designer on the film, to create the look that everybody is gonna want this fall — that of a pierced, Asperger’s-stricken, pale, gaunt and young computer hacker. So hot. Spanning thirty items — ranging from battered jeans, cropped leather jackets and hoodies to accessories including backpacks and tribal earrings — Summerville used the actual clothing from the film as a jumping off point and just made it more retail-ready.

“We took her [Salander’s] basic pieces that we used throughout the film and did a little more fashionable version for H&M,” Summerville said.

Granted, our idea of fashion is finding whatever is closest at hand and making sure it doesn’t smell before putting it on, so we’re not quite sure how this differs from your average rack at Hot Topic, except that it’ll be bonafide branded ‘Dragon Tattoo’ gear. Although, we also have some battered jeans and a hoodie sitting in our closet right now. Are we ahead of the curve? Anyway, if you want to bring out your inner Rooney Mara, the collection will hit select H&M stores on December 14th as well as online. The film hits on December 21st. Get a bigger look at the pieces below, a brief video about the line and a behind-the-scenes peek at Mara’s Vogue cover shoot.
