New Pics From ‘My Week With Marilyn’ Provide First Look At Julia Ormond As Vivien Leigh

And Yes, More Images Of Michelle Williams Looking Gorgeous

Here’s the thing about the awards season, and you probably already known this, but the actual quality of the movies vying for statues is sometimes secondary to it actually being a contender. Take “My Week With Marilyn.” While The Playlist team who caught the movie at the New York Film Festival essentially shrugged at the made-for-TV vibe of the picture — you can read our review here — for mostly everyone else, it played like gangbusters. And it wasn’t long after those initial screenings for critics that The Weinstein Company sensed they had something potentially big on their hands, and moved up the release date as a result. So it won’t be long until everyone else can get swept up in the old school elegance of the movie, but until then, another batch of photos have landed that give the first glimpse of Julia Ormond as Vivien Leigh, and yes, provided more material for dudes who want to put Michelle Williams on their high school locker door.

Directed by Simon Curtis, the plot centers on Marilyn Monroe’s friendship with young Englishman Colin Clark while in the U.K. shooting “The Prince and the Showgirl,” as well as her tempestuous relationship with director/co-star Laurence Olivier. Eddie Redmayne plays Clark, with Kenneth Branagh taking on the mantle of Olivier, and Julia Ormond as Olivier’s wife Vivien Leigh. Whatever you might say about the movie, it certainly looks handsomely put together, but whether it comes to life beyond the impeccable costuming and set design is a matter that will be debated over the coming weeks and months as the campaign for the movie truly heats up. Judi Dench, Dougray Scott, Derek Jacobi, Dominic Cooper and Emma Watson round out the cast.

“My Week With Marilyn” will start rolling out into theaters on Thanksgiving Weekend. Check out the plethora of images below. [via ONTD]
