RZA & Misty Upham Join Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’

With pretty much all the major parts now cast, it’s just bits and pieces left to get into place for Quentin Tarantino‘s “Django Unchained,” and he’s got two more folks coming on board.

The man who helped give “Kill Bill” its distinctive soundtrack, The Abbott and grand chessmaster himself, RZA, will take a part in upcoming spaghetti western/vengeance tale along with “Frozen River” star Misty Upham. Robert Fitzgerald Diggs will bring da motherfuckin’ ruckus to the part of Thaddeus, a violent slave working on a Mississippi plantation, and unless the script we read has changed drastically, this is a pretty small role that recurs throughout the picture. As for Upham — who hasn’t done much since the acclaimed film — she’ll be taking the part of Minnie, a trading post bar owner, in what is likely another small part. For RZA, it’s a no-brainer chance to hang with his good bud and fellow kung-fu lover QT, while for Upham, it’s a nice chance to take a part in a big film and share some screen time with some pretty heavyweight talent.

The duo join the now ridiculously huge ensemble that includes (take a big deep breath ) Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, Dennis Christopher, Kurt Russell, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, M.C. Gainey, Tom Savini, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony LaPaglia. But our big question is, what about that role Michael K. Williams was talking about? Does he still have a shot at this thing? Let’s hope so.

Filming kicks off in January for a Christmas Day 2012 release. [Variety]
