Writer/directors Jay and Mark Duplass have slowly been moving up the ladder from their lo-fi indie beginnings, delivering last year’s “Cyrus” and following it up with “Jeff Who Lives At Home,” hitting theaters next spring. They still have their long-forgotten sports-comedy “The Do-Deca-Pentathalon” sitting somewhere waiting to get released, but another film they had written and were lined up to helm has found another director.
“Spellbound” and “Rocket Science” helmer Jeffrey Blitz will now take on “Table 19,” set up at Fox Searchlight under Shawn Levy‘s 21 Laps production shingle. Written by the Duplass bros, the comedy is an ensemble piece about a group of people who meet at the “losers” table at a wedding, and explores the meaning of marriage from their outsider perspective.
While it’s been a few years since his last film, Blitz has been keeping busy helming episodes of “The Office” and “Parks & Recreation” and he’s also got a new documentary, “Lucky” — about the lottery — that’s played on HBO and is available on DVD. No word why the Duplass duo moved on, but we presume their script will be tinkered with by Blitz as he prepares to direct. No word yet on when it will lens. [Variety]
