For anyone who has been to Hawaii, you know that the laid back attitude of the locals, while at first disarming, quickly becomes infectious. Falling into the rhythms of the island is pretty easy, but for Matt King, our hero of Alexander Payne‘s “The Descendants,” that Hawaiian charm doesn’t come easy.
A new, brief trailer has arrived for “The Descendants” and it gives us a more layered look at Matt King as played by George Clooney. Based on the book by Kaui Hart Hemmings and co-written by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the film tells the story of a wealthy Hawaiian man who takes his daughters (Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller) on a road trip to find the man his wife has been having an affair with, after a boating accident leaves her critically injured. And as this trailer highlights, this is yet another entry into Payne’s catalog of real life pains and woe, undercut with a sense of humor borne from peculiarities of human relationships. And while we had some minor issues with the movie, our New York Film Festival review notes that the film is “a largely effective and moving one that matters when it counts the most.”
Currently riding a huge wave of festival buzz, “The Descendants” will begin rolling into theaters on November 18th. Trailer and new poster below. [Apple/Recent Movie Posters]
