Ami Canaan Mann’s ‘Texas Killing Fields’ Starring Sam Worthington & Chloe Moretz Lands October 7th

Venice is just a few weeks away and while the number of high-profile films is pretty staggering already, one project many will be keen to check out is Ami Canaan Mann‘s “Texas Killing Fields.” Yes, she shares the surname as Michael Mann and with good reason — she’s his daughter. Whether or not that filmmaking talent is genetic we’ll soon find out, but if you can’t make it to Venice, the film isn’t that far off.

Thompson On Hollywood reveals that Anchor Bay has now dated the film for an October 7th release, and while their theatrical bows tend to be rather limited, if response out of Italy is strong don’t be surprise if that theater count is bumped up. Featuring a strong cast including Sam Worthington, Chloe Moretz, Stephen Graham, Jessica Chastain and Jason Clarke, the moody based-in-fact thriller revolves around a series of unsolved murders in League City, Texas, where 21 women were killed or have disappeared since 1971.

It certainly sounds right in the Mann family wheelhouse, and while we have to be honest and say that Anchor Bay landing the film didn’t exactly make us believe this one might be a contender, there are two things to consider. Firstly, “Texas Killing Fields” has a competition slot in Venice which certainly counts for something and secondly, Anchor Bay also put their weight behind the critically acclaimed drama “Solitary Man” starring Michael Douglas and Jesse Eisenberg, so they aren’t just a genre house (at least not all the time). How this plays out in the next few weeks will certainly be interesting. In case you missed it, get a taste for the film by checking out the Italian trailer here.
