Anna Kendrick Is ‘Pitch Perfect’ For A Capella Rom-Com

There is no denying that Anna Kendrick has ascended into the top ranks of young actresses in Hollywood. Already a staple of the “Twilight” franchise, outside the vampires-and-werewolves films she has quickly established herself as a strong supporting player in “Up In The Air,” “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” and the forthcoming cancer dramedy “50/50.” But that’s not all, next year she already has two projects that couldn’t be more different, with David Ayer‘s police pic “End Of Watch” and the ensemble comedy “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” on her calendar. But the actress is ready to step into a leading lady role, and her first shot may some require some singing as well.

Based on the book written by Mickey Rapkin, “Perfect Pitch” will find Kendrick starring as “a goth-like and rebellious student, unhappy to be at a school at which her father is a professor, who discovers her voice and becomes the secret weapon for the school’s female a cappella group.” It’s a pretty familiar formula — outsider rolls with the popular kids and everyone learns lessons — and while we hope that there is a bit more meat on the bones of this one, having TV director Jason Moore (“Dawson’s Creek,” “One Tree Hill,” “Brothers & Sisters“) at the helm making his debut feature, we’re not holding our breath that this will step very far beyond the conventional.

While THR warns that the deal is in “early stages,” everything is lining up for a fall shoot in New Orleans so it’s probably just a matter of hammering out Kendrick’s paycheque. And while the material might not be our bag, Kendrick going goth? That could be some fun.
