After playing the quip-filled Howard Stark in “Captain America: The First Avenger” and appearing in pretty much every single scene in “The Devil’s Double” where he played two characters with equal panache, it looks like Dominic Cooper is ready to give his mouth a break.
Back in May when Albert Hughes bailed on the long-gestating “Akira” remake, it was an amicable departure and at the time it was said he was looking at other projects at Warner Bros. That project turned out to be “Motor City,” and Chris Evans was one of the first actors linked as a potential star for the movie. Well, that didn’t come to pass but now Variety reports that Cooper is in negotiations for the lead role of this pretty unique film.
Penned by Chad St. John, the 2009 Black List script follows a small-time crook who is framed and sent to jail, and then goes after the guys that put him there. The twist? Apparently the lead only has one line of dialogue in the whole thing. So like “Drive” but with even less dialogue? Things have been quiet on the Cooper front of late with only the still-gestating “My Dinner With Hervé” on his slate of potential projects. Cooper hasn’t really led his own film outside “The Devil’s Double” so it’s an ambitious move by Warner Bros. and their genre shingle Dark Castle, but clearly they have strong faith that the concept itself will be enough to get audiences to check it out. As for Cooper, he’s got the presence for leading man material and this will certainly be his big opportunity to shine.
