First Look At Kenneth Branagh As Laurence Olivier In ‘My Week With Marilyn’

From directing “Thor,” to starring, adapting and helming various Shakespeare works to playing troubled cop Kurt Wallander, Kenneth Branagh has pretty much done it all, but surely even he must have been slightly intimidated stepping into the shoes of the legendary Laurence Olivier in the upcoming “My Week With Marilyn.” Empire has the first look at the actor playing the iconic thesp and he’s certainly nailed down the imposing gravitas Olivier carried with him.

As for the film, it’s based on an assistant’s diary kept during the production of “The Prince and the Showgirl,” and follows Marilyn Monroe’s (Michelle Williams) friendship with said assistant, Colin Clark, chronicles her stay in England and her tempestuous relationship with director/co-star Laurence Olivier. Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Dougray Scott, Judi Dench, Julia Ormond, Derek Jacobi, Dominic Cooper and Emma Watson round out the cast for what is shaping up to be fascinating journey back into the classic moviemaking world, and we’re definitely excited to see Williams and Branagh square off.

The film will premiere at the New York Film Festival before hitting theaters on November 4th. Check out the full image below.
