While Channing Tatum hasn’t impressed us with his acting prowess just yet, it’s hard to hate on the guy because he’s driven by a sincere desire to do good work. For every “Step Up,” “Fighting” or “Dear John” the actor has a “Public Enemies,” “The Eagle” or “Haywire” to balance things out and wisely, he’s moving into producing to get vehicles he’s more interested in doing off the ground. Both “21 Jump Street” and the upcoming Steven Soderbergh stripper flick “Magic Mike” will find Tatum with a more active role behind the scenes, but before both of those pictures, his first producing effort “Ten Year” will hit TIFF next month.
The simple premise centers on a group of friends, approaching or in their 30s, who reunite 10 years after college, and Tatum worked his Rolodex hard, putting together a strong ensemble including his real-life wife Jenna Dewan, Brian Geraghty, Anthony Mackie, Kate Mara, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Scott Porter, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris and Oscar Isaac. Well, a batch of new stills has arrived for the film showing various players in the movie and also revealing a few more names that haven’t been mentioned as part of the cast thus far (and likely only making small appearances) including Ari Graynor, Aubrey Plaza and Max Minghella. The project comes from “Dear John” writer Jamie Linden who is also making his directorial debut, so we’ll see if the helmer and producer/actor have elevated their game from their previous Nicholas Sparks collaboration.
“Ten Year” unspools at TIFF, but has no release date yet as the film will be seeking distribution. Synopsis and images below. [Voltage]
TEN YEAR tells the story of a group of friends returning home for their ten year high school reunion. In the vein of THE BIG CHILL, it follows several different characters over the course of one night, as they attempt to reconcile their current reality with the hopes and desires they had as idealistic teenagers: a returning rock star reunites with the girl he wrote his most famous song for; an engaged insurance salesman comes face to face with his high-school sweetheart for the first time in ten years; two old friends compete to win the affection of the most popular girl in the class; and the school bully tries to make amends.
Over the course of one evening, we follow a stellar cast, including Channing Tatum, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long and Brian Geraghty, as they attempt to make sense of lives and relationships that they could never have predicted ten years before.
