Of all the stuff that happened last at night at MTV’s VMAs — Lady Gaga‘s lame Chris Gaines-esque alter ego! Tyler The Creator winning! “Hunger Games” teaser trailer! — the biggest news belong the baby bump sported by Beyoncé. That’s right universe, the “Single Ladies” singer and Jay-Z are procreating, so get yourselves ready (the fetus even has its own Twitter account). But alas, while we await the momentous day when that child arrives in the world, her collaboration with Clint Eastwood on a new take on “A Star Is Born” will have to wait.
Deadline reports that the developing project, which was eyeing a February 2012 start, will now have to wait out JayBey’s kid, but it’s just as well as a leading man still needs to be found. Earlier this summer word surfaced that Eastwood was was eyeing his “J. Edgar” star Leonardo DiCaprio for the movie, but the actor won’t be doing the pic. So who will? Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Hamm and Russell Crowe have been been linked to the project in the past and according to Deadline, Smith and Christian Bale are still some of those names being tossed around (it’s one of the many projects the latter actor is currently looking at). Whether or not theu names ultimately sign on — or somebody else completely — we’ll just have to wait and see.
The story of “A Star Is Born” is about as old as the movies themselves, telling the of a wide-eyed girl dreaming of stardom who finds a helping hand from a washed out, alcoholic older leading man. The story was first made as a drama by William Wellman in 1937, but truly became legendary when it became a musical in 1954 starring Judy Garland and directed by George Cukor. In 1976, Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson tried to repeat that success but were met with dismal results. The updated version will take place in the music world with a young singer falling for an older rock star.
There’s no word yet on a new start date for the movie, but considering the fast-moving Eastwood doesn’t like to sit idle for too long, we wouldn’t be surprised if he knocks something else out in the interim. Meanwhile, anyone got any name suggestions for Hova and Bee’s baby?
