Paul Rudd & Jennifer Aniston’s ‘Wanderlust’ Moves To Feb 2012; ‘The Descendants’ Moves Forward One Week
It has been three long years since Will Smith, arguably one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, was last seen on the big screen. 2008 saw two sides of the thesp: the blockbuster star in “Hancock” and the awards season contender in “Seven Pounds.” Though they were successful, neither film quite lived up to expectations – and now Smith seems determined to bring home the bacon. Next year he’ll be back with his mega-franchise in tow for “Men In Black III,” and he won’t be keeping fans waiting as 2013 will once again see him at a theater near you.
Though word has been quiet on the project, things are ramping up for M. Night Shyamalan‘s “One Thousand A.E.” which in case you forgot, will pair the star with his son, Jaden Smith. Details are being kept tight, but the story will follow a young boy and his estranged father who crash land on a planet and have to explore to it. Last year, all Jaden would reveal is “it’s set in the future and it’s about a journey.” Duh.
The movie will now hit theaters on June 7, 2013, arriving one week before Zack Snyder‘s “Man of Steel.” You already know how we feel about M. Night Shyamalan but Will Smith tends to be very picky, so we presume there is something here that he likes (and no doubt he’ll be hiring folks to fine tune the script to his tastes). Filming is slated to begin in early 2012.
Some other date changes to take note of: the David Wain-directed, Judd Apatow-produced “Wanderlust,” starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston, has moved from October 7th of this year to February 24, 2012. Co-starring Malin Akerman, Ray Liotta, Alan Alda and Justin Theroux, the film centers on a married couple (Aniston and Rudd) who attempt to escape fast-paced big city life by moving from New York to a commune. With the cast in place and Apatow looking on from above, we have high hopes. The film, co-written by Ken Marino and David Wain, now lands on a weekend with little in the way of competition – “Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds” and Amanda Seyfried‘s indie thriller “Gone.”
Finally, it looks like the strong buzz from Telluride has compelled Fox Searchlight to move ahead the release of Alexander Payne‘s “The Descendants” by one week to November 18th, ahead of the Thanksgiving crush. Starring George Clooney, and co-written by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the film follows the story of a wealthy Hawaiian man named Matt King (Clooney), who takes his daughters (Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller) on a road trip to find the man his wife has been having an affair with after a boating accident leaves her critically injured. Advance word seems to strong and buzz will continue to build as the film hits TIFF this week. [Box Office Mojo]
