All the bated breath might be being held for “War Horse,” but honestly, if there’s one Steven Spielberg movie that we’re really excited for this year, it’s “The Adventures of Tintin.” The property still doesn’t mean much to American audiences, but for us Europeans, it was a staple of our upbringings. The trailers and footage so far make it look out to be the true follow-up to the Indiana Jones franchise that “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” failed to be, with a classically Spielbergian sense of action and adventure, and with a script combining the giant brains of Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, we’ve got pretty high hopes.
We’re only a month or so away from its release in Europe (the U.S. won’t get it until Christmas), and some added insights into the 3D performance capture picture have arrived thanks to a bevy of new images from Czech site Falcon. There’s nothing revelatory here, but it continues to suggest that as they did with “Avatar” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” WETA have managed to overcome the dead-eye hurdle that plagued Robert Zemeckis‘ similar films; it looks pretty gorgeous all in, reminiscent of Belgian artist Hergé‘s work while looking pretty cutting-edge still. Check out all the images after the jump.
The film rolls out in Europe from October 26th, and arrives in the States on December 23rd.
