After having Jeremy Renner replaced by Sam Rockwell for the male lead, Geoff Moore and David Posamentier‘s “Better Living Through Chemistry” has once again seen another equal casting substitution with rising star Olivia Wilde set to take on the role recently left vacant by Jennifer Garner after news of her third pregnancy.
Wilde will now play the trophy wife customer of a straight-laced pharmacist (Rockwell) whose uneventful life spirals out of control as she takes him on a joyride involving sex, drugs and a murder plot to kill her husband. Judi Dench and Michelle Monaghan are also on board the film with the latter playing Rockwell’s “really anal, uptight” wife.
The film adds another yet another string to Wilde’s bow, which is now just starting develop from smaller supporting roles to more substantial female leads. She’ll actually soon be seen playing third/fourth fiddle to the actress she’s replacing here, Garner, in Jim Field Smith‘s “Butter” but has a handful of other interesting projects already in the works including Andrew Niccol‘s “In Time,” Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal‘s “The Words” with Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana, “Blackbird” with Eric Bana and Charlie Hunnam as well as Alex Kurtzman‘s highly touted directorial debut “Welcome To People” starring Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks. We’re expecting to see a whole lot of her in the future; despite none of her films thus far earning much critical success, she’s apparently strong on the TV show “House” and seems to be all-round magnetic presence.
Moore and Posamentier are directing ‘Chemistry’ from their Black-listed script with Occupant Entertainment’s Joe Neurater, Felipe Marino and Keith Calder producing. Filming will begin this fall.
