Ron & Tammy From ‘Parks And Recreation’ Join ‘Gay Dude’

Gary Cole & Brian Geraghty Also On Board

If you haven’t watched “Parks and Recreation,” then you’ve been missing one of the best comedic on-screen pairings in ages with real-life husband and wife team Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally playing bitter, hyper-sexual ex-spouses Ron and Tammy #2. The episodes centered around their contentious relationship are some of the best in the series, so we’ll gladly follow the duo wherever they go.

And it seems they’ve headed to the comedy “Gay Dude,” though they won’t be butting heads. Variety reports that Offerman, Mullally, the always awesome Gary Cole and “The Hurt Locker” star Brian Geraghty have all signed on, joining the previously announced Dakota Johnson, Nicholas Braun, Hunter Cope and Dreama Walker in the film. Penned by Alan Yang, who perhaps not so coincidentally has also written episodes of “Parks and Recreation,” the story centers on Michael (Braun) and Matty (Cope) who make a pact to lose their virginity before prom, only for Matty to come out of the closet. Offerman will play Michael’s supportive father, with Cole and Mullally to play Matty’s parents with the former being a staunch conservative, and Geraghty as his older brother who still lives at home.

It’s a good premise, and Yang’s script has been Black List approved, but it will be up to director Chris Nelson, making his debut feature, to make the material and talent sing. Filming has started in Vancouver, with the comedy being made as part of Lionsgate‘s planned “micro-budget” film initiative; 10 films a year with budgets under $2 million.
