Warner Bros. Plans A Thanksgiving 2012 Release
Just yesterday, Warner Bros. picked up “Swear to God” as a potential vehicle for powerhouse comedy duo director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell but it looks they want them for something else first.
Vulture reports that McKay is in talks to direct the amateur football comedy “Three Mississippi” (formerly known as “Turkey Bowl“) that already has “The Other Guys” duo Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg attached to star. Nice. Written by “30 Rock” scribes Robert Carlock and Scott Silveri, the project was sold as a pitch that’s essentially this: Wahlberg and Ferrell will play two men who come from “football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in an annual tackle football game for bragging and trash-talking rights.” The tackle games are evidently meant to host star cameos in a similar manner as the rival broadcast fights of “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson and Tim Robbins were the big cameos in that famous scene) and McKay has already said that he wants Jeremy Renner and Rob Riggle to suit up.
This project is moving very fast despite the busy schedules of everyone involved. Warner Bros. wants to get this one locked and loaded fast and are aiming for a Thanksgiving 2012 release, with McKay making it his next directorial gig (looks like “The Boys” will have to wait for now).
The turnaround will have to be very tight, but we imagine this will be a breezy, loose shoot that will be as much of a vacation as a job. Wahlberg starts shooting David O. Russell‘s “The Silver Linings Playbook” later this summer, and Ferrell will team with with Zach Galifianakis on the political comedy “Southern Rivals” which not coincidentally, is also set up at WB (two awesome Ferrell comedies in 2012? Do we dare to dream?). Given the Rolodex that both Ferrell and Wahlberg carry, this could be pretty damn amazing so please, bring it on. We’d wager this one will get in front of cameras later this fall.
