Though you may not be familiar with the name Alberto Iglesias, you’ve certainly heard his work. The composer is perhaps best known for the music he’s penned for frequent collaborator Pedro Almodovar or perhaps from his Oscar-nominated scores for “The Constant Gardener” and “The Kite Runner.” Quite simply, he’s one of the best composers working today and he’s getting ready to add another acclaimed filmmaker to his resumé.
Film Music Reporter has revealed that Iglesias will take on scoring duties for Roman Polanski‘s forthcoming drama “Carnage.” Based on the play by French writer Yasmina Reza (originally called “God of Carnage”), the film is a New York-set story (a location the helmer can’t film in, for obvious reasons, and instead has been shot in Paris) that follows two sets of middle-class parents who meet for dinner after their children get into a fight at school. Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz take on the roles of Penelope, Michael, Nancy and Allen, respectively, and this should easily be an actor’s showcase. The film is currently in post, and we figure it’s a surefire bet for Venice or TIFF later in the year.
Considering the talent both in front and behind the camera, “Carnage” is shaping up to be some heavy Oscar bait. And it won’t be the only music form Iglesias we hear this year. He’s also tuned up Almodovar’s Cannes-premiering “The Skin I Live In” which is due for release in November.
