Independently financing your film gives you freedom, and while Neill Blomkamp‘s forthcoming sci-fi film “Elysium” is toplined by Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, he’s rounding out the rest of his cast with smaller names and/or international actors.
Deadline reveals that his latest addition is Alice Braga (not Sonia Braga as they initially reported) and of course, no details are being given on the character she will play. Braga has rising through the ranks for a while now. She got her major breakout turn in “City Of God,” more exposure opposite Will Smith in “I Am Legend,” more recently appeared in “Predators” and “The Rite” and will feature in Walter Salles‘ “On The Road” later this year.
Braga joins Damon, Foster, Sharlto Copley, Wagner Moura and William Fichtner in the film set 100 years in the future that will have a social commentary element. Damon will be playing an ex-con, Foster the leader of alien race, while Moura will be the villain in the film. Also on board is legendary “Blade Runner” designer Syd Mead who will be handling set design for the picture.
“Elysium” begins filming this summer in Vancouver and will hit theaters on March 1, 2013.
