It seems the team behind Lynne Ramsay‘s “We Need To Talk About Kevin” has been pushing their film harder than anyone else on the Croisette in terms of advance footage, but it’s clear to see why. The premise isn’t an easily sellable one, telling the story of a mother (Tilda Swinton) of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree as she tries to deal with her grief—and feelings of responsibility for her child’s actions. Heavy stuff indeed. But as the clips from earlier in the week and the new one today reveal — this film is looking like both an acting decathlon and wiry drama of the highest order.
This latest spot centers on the parents (John C. Reilly plays Swinton’s husband in the film) as they try and figure out arrangements of what to do with the titular Kevin in what looks like the early stages of a divorce. And while Reilly and Swinton are, as usual, aces here, we think the real secret ingredient of the film will be Ezra Miller who is absolutely commanding in each of the clips he’s been featured in, standing toe to toe with the veteran thesps. And here, he once again walks away with the entire scene.
Word will be coming fast on “We Need To Talk About Kevin” as it premieres tomorrow, so look out for our review. In the meantime check out the clip and another new image below.
