Arnold Schwarzenegger Adds ‘Cry Macho’ To List Of Potential Projects

Hollywood wants Arnie (whether the rest of us do or not remains to be seen) and the former Governator (who turned that moniker into an animated series) has his pick of projects. A new “Terminator” film is currently out at the studios looking for a buyer, and earlier in the year, he was linked to Ji-Woon Kim’s “Last Stand” and Antoine Fuqua’s “The Tomb” as possible new projects. Well, you can add one more.

Vulture reports Arnold Schwarzenegger has picked “Cry Macho” for his next film but it still seems to be early days at this point. While the plan is to shoot the film this summer, it is currently without financing and more importantly, is not an action picture which we’d wager might make potential financiers wary. Bill Block, one of the producers of “District 9,” and Al Ruddy (“Million Dollar Baby,” “The Godfather“) will be repping the film at Cannes next month where they hope to raise funds and the pitch will be an interesting one.

Based on the book and with a script by the late N. Richard Nash, Arnie would play “a damaged-goods horse trainer who’s just been ignominiously put out to pasture by his feckless boss. In exchange for some retirement money, the broken — and broke — horseman agrees to kidnap the boss’s 11-year-old son from his rich Mexican ex-wife. Things take an unexpected turn, however, when the ex-wife is all too glad to be rid of her juvenile delinquent.”

Arnie had actually been attached the film years ago, but it never got in front of cameras and at one point Clint Eastwood was sought for the lead role, but that incarnation never happened either. Brad Furman (“The Lincoln Lawyer“) is attached to direct but the question is for Arnie’s big screen comeback, will people want to see him emoting or just blowing shit up? We’re guessing the latter — no one ever missed Arnie The Actor, but instead Arnie The Action Star. But hey, if people are willing to invest in “The Governator,” anything is possible.
