Colin Hanks Joins ‘My Mother’s Curse’ With Seth Rogen & Barbra Streisand

It can’t be easy being the son of Tom Hanks, just ask this guy. But for Colin Hanks, he’s done a pretty solid job so far of moving up the ranks of Hollywood. Sure, he teamed with Papa Hanks for “The Great Buck Howard,” but no one saw that movie anyway, and he’s been quietly amassing screen credits (and when he’s not in meetings, he’s been hitting Twitter pretty hard) featuring most prominently in “Orange County” and “King Kong.” But 2011 seems to be the year we’ll he’ll finally start getting a much higher profile. He recently scored a prominent, recurring role on the forthcoming, sixth season of “Dexter” and now he’s set to join what should be one of the bigger comedies of 2012.

THR reports that Hanks will join Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in “My Mother’s Curse.” The rather heartwarming-sounding tale follows an inventor who embarks on a road trip with his mother as he tries to sell his latest product, while he has a secret plan to reunite her with a long lost love. Rogen will play Andy Brewster, with Streisand as his mother Joyce. Hanks will play the husband of Andy’s high school sweetheart (Yvonne Strahovski) and they’ll meet when he and his mother crash at the house after they get caught in a blizzard.

Production is already underway on the film and it has a script from Dan Fogelman (”Cars,” “Crazy Stupid Love”) and, less promisingly, has Anne Fletcher (”27 Dresses,” “The Proposal”) in the director’s chair. No release dates have been set just yet.
