Look at those two young dudes. Bet they didn’t realize at the time that they would both travel through the industry together rising to the top of their respective fields, with Tim Burton one of a handful of name brand directors working today and Danny Elfman as one of the most distinctive composers on the block. Through all the shifts and tides of Hollywood, Burton and Elfman stuck together working together on every one of the director’s films except for “Ed Wood” and “Sweeney Todd” and they’re not about to change up that dynamic anytime soon.
Film Music Reporter reveals that Elfman will tune up Burton’s 3D full length tale of his 1984 short film “Frankenweenie.” Featuring a voice cast that includes Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Martin Landau and Catherine O’Hara, the stop-motion animated film about a boy who brings his dog back to life after getting hit by a car, leading to some funky results.
While some would argue that Elfman’s music has gone from uniquely recognizable to simply rote, his work with Burton seems to bring out the best in him so we remain curious to see what they’ll put together. The two will certainly be spending a lot of time together as they’re currently at work on “Dark Shadows” and they’ll likely move right on over to “Frankenweenie” after. The film hits in time for Halloween next year on October 5, 2012.
