Darren Aronofsky Eyes Sci-Fi Pic ‘Human Nature’ With George Clooney Linked To Star

What is in the water today? News about Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson and now this. We guess people are clearing their desks of news before grabbing their flight to Cannes.

Anyway, Vulture reports that Darren Aronofsky, who bailed and essentially put “The Wolverine” on hiatus earlier this year, has dusted himself off and is eyeing his next project. And it sounds big. The director has grabbed a fifteen year old script called “Human Nature” and is now eyeing it for his next film. Even more, George Clooney is apparently attached to star.

Written by the little known Jeff Welch (who at one point years ago was tasked with writing a “Dr. Strange” movie), the story centers “on a man who is cryogenically frozen and wakes up years later to a world in which humans have become pets of another species.” So kind of “Planet Of The Apes“-esque?

Interestingly, the project is being developed over at Warner Bros. with Akiva Goldsman (run Darren! Run!) producing and getting budget figures in order. We presume Aronofsky’s two year deal with Fox that he inked last year probably isn’t in the best of shape right now after bouncing from their big superhero movie. And Aronofsky does already have a relationship with WB having made “The Fountain” under their roof.

Nothing is confirmed and it seems it pretty early stages and studio types need to furrow their brows and approve, but should it all pan out, Vulture says this would go next for Aronofsky.
