Also Hugh Grant As An Animated Pirate
Yep, it’s a picture post so screw yr eyeballs in and get ready.
First up, eagle-eyed Anne Thompson has stumbled across a first look at a new Pixar short, “La Luna.” As is typical with the Pixar house, director Enrico Casarosa got his start as a story artist on “Cars,” “Ratatouille” and “Up” before getting promoted to helm his own film. The short will premiere at the Annecy International Animation Festival in June. Here’s the synopsis:
La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?
The ridiculously enthusiastically named animated film “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” announced Hugh Grant as part of the voice cast today along with Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey and Ashley Jenson. Here’s your first look that was sent along as well. The plot revolves around a pirate (Grant) who is up for the Pirate Of The Year Award. Yeah, we fell asleep already. The film hits on March 30, 2012.
Moving on, while the Cannes Film Festival is already stacked with many buzz worthy films, none have grown as loud as Julia Leigh‘s “Sleeping Beauty.” Thanks to a stunning trailer and some evocative artwork, the film has risen to “must watch” status for those headed to Croisette. Starring Emily Browning, the film is described as a haunting erotic fairy tale that centers on a student who drifts into prostitution and finds her niche as a woman who is drugged into sleep while men do to her what she can’t remember the next morning. So, sort of a “Sucker Punch“/”Salo” mashup then? We’ll soon find out. But these new pics should do for now.
Finally, more “Three Musketeers” pics! Woo! Shedding the stodgy period stuffiness of the previous images, this one provides more exploded stuff, guns and uh, giant cheese pieces? The film stars Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelson, Gabriella Wilde, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz and will hamfistedly directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. It opens on October 14th and we’re pretty confused why the marketing department is blowing their load on promotional stuff so early in the game. [via HeyUGuys]
