First Look: Emile Hirsch In ‘The Darkest Hour’ – A Russian-Set Alien Invasion Thriller

Things have been relatively quiet on “The Darkest Hour” front, a Summit Entertainment 3D science-fiction film directed by Chris Gorak and produced by Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted,” “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter“). But now we have our first look at Emile Hirsch in the film, taking shelter in Moscow’s Red Square.

Featuring Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella (“The Social Network“), Rachel Taylor (one of the new “Charlie’s Angels“), Joel Kinnaman (AMC‘s “The Killing“) and Greg Kinnear, the film depicts an alien invasion in Russia and stars Thirlby and Hirsch as young people caught in the attack. The currently has a release date scheduled for December 23, 2011.

Here’s the official synopsis: THE DARKEST HOUR follows five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. The 3D action-thriller highlights the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects from the minds of visionary filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (WANTED, NIGHT WATCH) and director Chris Gorak. Gorak (”Right At Your Door”) wrote this thriller alongside Josh Zetumer—a Black List favorite who penned a script for the now lifeless “Bourne 4.” While it’s Gorak’s feature-film debut as a director, his experience as an art director on films like “Fight Club,” “Minority Report” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” promise some interesting aesthetics.
