Is The Film Headed To The Cannes Film Festival This May?
Here is the first look at Jason Clarke, Tom Hardy and Shia Labeouf playing the leading trio of brothers — Forrest, Howard and Jack Bondurant — in John Hillcoat‘s upcoming adaptation of “The Wettest County In The World,” courtesy of what looks like a photo of dailies tweeted by producer Cassian Elwes (“Blue Valentine“).
Elwes even provided his own biased two cents on the film so far, writing that “I saw quite a bit of footage yesterday from wettest county it looks excellent. Shia is a leading man in every way with a great great cast… Hillcoat’s use of cinematic language is astounding. He conveys emotion w/ the camera not words- a rarity. His men r men. Every moment’s real.”
The producer also took some photos during a set visit and while they’re kinda horrible quality (god bless him for trying), they do seemingly provide the first glimpse of Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain with an additional fan photo giving a clearer look at the rising Australian actress.
When might we all get a look at the feature? Evidently, when pigs fly, or more accurately, when Matt Bondurant, the author of the source novel, can get a jumbo jet flight with Kanye West.
“I decided that when the #Wettestcounty movie goes to Cannes this May I’m only going if I get to fly in a private jumbo jet w/ Kanye West,” the writer tweeted [via TomHardyVariations]. Considering the picture was still in front of cameras last month and only recently wrapped, we’d take this bit of info with a huge grain of salt. A Venice/TIFF premiere seems like a more likely possibility. However, will the film go the marketplace in Cannes with some select footage for buyers? Sure, it’s a definite possibility.
Our excitement for this pic pretty much knows no bounds particularly with the cast that features — in addition to the aforementioned five — Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman and Dane DeHaan. Nick Cave, who adapted the novel for the screen, will also be writing the score after his stellar work on Andrew Dominik‘s “The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford,” probably with partner-in-crime Warren Ellis.
