Former ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Christopher Meloni Joins ‘Man Of Steel’

While some trades had claimed that the casting of Superman’s parents would be the last major pieces of the “Man Of Steel” roster to be filled out, it appears that’s not the case, as one more name has boarded the project.

Deadline reports that Christopher Meloni — aka Detective Elliot Stabler of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” which he left this year after over a decade of service — is in negotiations to join the film in an unspecified “major role.” Let the speculation begin! Could it be another villain? Our guess is that it might be Perry White, Clark Kent’s boss at the The Daily Planet. Jackie Cooper played the role in “Superman: The Movie” while Frank Langella took a stab at it in “Superman Returns.” But of course, it could be something else entirely and the term “major role” could be very flexible.

Meloni comes aboard a pretty character actor heavy strong cast including Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond. Filming begins later this year with Zack Snyder at the helm for a 2012 release.
