Get our pens, a couple movies have some dates and one….doesn’t.
The indie thriller “Gone” starring Amanda Seyfried will now arrive on February 24, 2012 which sounds about right for a genre flick. Directed by the little known Heitor Dhalia (”Adrift”) and with a script by Allison Burnett (”Untraceable,” “Fame”) the corny sounding premise revolves around “a woman named Jill who returns home from her night shift to find her sister’s bed empty. She’s convinced the serial killer who kidnapped her two years before has come back to finish the job. But the police do not believe her and Jill knows time is running out. With no one to turn to, Jill sets off to find her sister and face her abductor once and for all.” Maybe there is something more on the page because this all sounds a little low-rent. But it won’t have much competition that weekend squaring off against the horror flick “The Devil Inside” and the Luc Besson space prison movie “Lockout.”
Meanwhile, “JCVD” director Mabrouk El Mechri‘s next effort “The Cold Light Of Day” with Superman himself Henry Cavill, along with Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver, gets a much more promising April 6, 2012 date. In the film, Cavill plays a young American whose family is kidnapped on vacation in Spain. He’s got hours to find them, and unravels a government conspiracy. Willis plays his father, who has secrets of his own and Weaver will play the villainess — awesome. That weekend it won’t have much in its way except the “American Reunion” flick but, you know what the right option is.
Finally, the Todd Phillips produced, low budget party comedy “Project X” has been quietly bumped out of the very busy November 23rd Thanksgiving weekend where it would have battled “Arthur Christmas,” “Hugo Cabret,” “The Muppets” and “Piranha 3DD.” It will now land sometime in 2012. Wise move. This one features a cast of unknowns — Miles Teller, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame, Alexis Knapp, Thomas Mann, Nichole O’Connor, Oliver Cooper and Jonathan Daniel Brown also attached to star – and is centered on “a group of kids documenting a house party that suddenly goes awry” in a documentary-like style. We’re guessing it’ll be slotted somewhere in the spring frame or perhaps moved all the way to a late-August 2012 type debut. [THR/BoxOfficeMojo]
