You gotta hand it to Adam Sandler. No matter what you might think of his puerile excuses for movies, he’s made a career out of getting paid to hang out with his friends and deliver loosely patched together series of images that he calls “movies.” And he’s getting another chance to roll with his homies, and this time, he won’t even have to put up the pretense of shaving or wearing pants.
“Grown Ups” trio Adam Sandler, Kevin James and David Spade are among an extensive voice cast that includes Cee Lo Green, Steve Buscemi (who has appeared in a few Sandler productions), Molly Shannon (“Saturday Night Live” alum), Fran Drescher and Andy Samberg (who will co-star with Sandler in “I Hate You, Dad“) who are lending their voices to the 3D animated toon, “Hotel Transylvania.”
There’s no info who wrote this thing, but the story is set in the titular accomodations, “Dracula’s lavish, five-stake resort where monsters and their families can live it up, free from meddling humans.” James wil star as Frank, aka Frankenstein with Drescher as his larger-than-life Bride. Spade will play Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notre Dame who is now a gourmet chef, while Green will play Murray, a singing Mummy. Buscemi and Shannon play Wayne and Wanda, a pair of married werewolves on a family vacation at the hotel, with Samberg playing Jonathan, a 21-year-old regular guy whose world travels land him at the hotel, where he takes a shine to Dracula’s teenage daughter, Mavis.
All in all it sounds pretty dumb, and we’re sure Sandler will put in the full 62% of effort he usually does. Genndy Tartakovsky (“Samurai Jack,” “Star Wars: Clone Wars“) is directing and the 3D film is already pegged with a September 21, 2012 release date. [Variety]
