He’s been a saloon owner in the western “Deadwood,” Blackbeard in “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and now Ian McShane is lining up a big, small role. What?
THR reports that McShane is the first actor to take on one of the roles of the dwarfs in Universal‘s “Snow White And The Huntsman.” Yes, one of the two competing Snow White projects that will hit theaters next year, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Sam Clafin in a retelling of the classic fairy tale in which the woodsman (Hemsworth), who is meant to bump off the titular princess (Stewart), winds up training her instead to fight her evil stepmother (Theron). McShane will play Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs who we presume has no ties to Caesar the leader of the apes.
Production on the film will begin in August with Rupert Sanders directing — giving plenty of time for Hossein Amini to complete his rewrite — with a June 1, 2012 release date already slotted. But Relativity‘s competing, still untitled, Tarsem-directed film started filming today, and is set to hit theaters on March 16, 2012. Two rushed productions each delivering movies in less than a year? Here’s hoping at least one of them is watchable.
