Justin Timberlake Gets ‘Fully Automatic’ For Warner Bros.

Who would have thought when Justin Timberlake was little more than that curly haired dude in *NSync that he would graduate to a hugely successful solo career that would help launch an acting career that would see him show considerable acting and dramatic chops. And while he’s proven his mettle in “The Social Network” and showed that his charm translates easily in “Bad Teacher,” Timberlake is ready to shake things up a bit. Later this year, he’ll be starring in his first bonafide genre flick, Andrew Niccol’s thriller “In Time” and it looks like Timberlake is still looking to dirty up his good looks.

In the midst of Vulture‘s big update on the projects that are moving around over at the Warner Bros. lot, they dropped a little nugget of info right at the very end of the piece: Justin Timberlake is now attached to star in the Joel Silver produced buddy action flick “Fully Automatic.”

Described to be in the vein of “Lethal Weapon,” the project has been in development for quiet a while. Back in very early 2009, Variety reported that “Running Scared” helmer Wayne Kramer was going to direct, but obviously that didn’t come pass. With the latest draft written by stunt coordinator and second unit director Marc Wolff (Kramer was going to do a pass before directing but it’s unknown if he got that far), the very 1980s sounding plot centers on two rookie cops out who team up with a female former Delta Force operative to stop a mercenary who has stolen a cache of weapons. Uh, ok. It kind of sounds like a zillion genre flicks that get released straight-to-DVD each year, so we hope there is a little more to that story.

Regardless, it seems to be early days and no director or writer seem to be attached, though Timberlake certainly will help in getting people circling.
