With Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana getting set to flex their action chops in “The Avengers” and “Colombiana” respectively, don’t worry about them leaving more serious fare behind as the duo are looking to team up on what sounds like a pretty grim drama.
First revealed by Pajiba last fall, fresh momentum is now building around “Infinitely Polar Bear” with Vulture reporting that Saldana is now coming aboard with the previously attached Ruffalo. Produced by J.J. Abrams and written by Maya Forbes (“Monsters vs. Aliens,” “The Larry Sanders Show“) who will also make her directing debut on the picture, the film follows “a bipolar husband and father (Ruffalo) who goes off his medication, and then loses both his sanity and job while struggling to hold onto his marriage. Saldana would play his put-upon wife, who, after going back to work, ends up moving out of the house, leaving him with the kids.” Fun!
For all you Megan Ellison nerds out there, she’s financing the picture so that’s one more piece of info you can wax your boners with. According to Vulture, the film will be squeezed in before “Star Trek 2” tentatively starts shooting November (also with Saldana) but it would have to wait for Ruffalo to wrap up his ‘Avengers’ duties.
Speaking of which, Ruffalo recently hit Twitter to chat with fans about the superhero film and revealed that though “The Avengers” will be released in 3D, it is “not being shot” in the format. Clearly, no one has learned anything from “Green Lantern,” “Thor” or any number of forgettable post-conversion jobs that have hit screens. Is (shitty) 3D dead? Hardly.
