Mikael Håfström Will ‘Wake’ Up To Thriller

Need someone to direct your second or third-tier thriller with absolutely no voice and only the most perfunctory sense of style and execution? Look no further than Mikael Håfström.

THR reports that the man behind the undercooked “Derailed,” the silly “1408,” the scare-less “The Rite” and the still unreleased, and presumed to be awful “Shanghai” will take the reins of the Hammer Films production “Wake.” Christopher Borelli (“The Marine 2“) and Matt Sand (“Ninja Assassin“), whose CVs speak for themselves, have penned the tale about “a sociopath who is incapable of feeling fear.” Sigh.

No other word on this yet. The famed Hammer Films shingle, noted for such genre classics back in the day as “Horror Of Dracula,” “The Curse Of Frankenstein,” “Curse Of The Werewolf” and “Demons Of The Mind” have recently rebooted and are hoping to become relevant horror/thriller players once again. They were behind Matt Reeves‘ excellent “Let Me In” and their next effort, “The Woman In Black” with Daniel Radcliffe seems like another step in the right direction, but “Wake” sounds like straight-to-DVD type fare. Here’s hoping there is (much) more to this than meets the eye.
