‘Moneyball’ Poster Reveals That It Stars Brad Pitt & Is About Baseball

We’re not sure what the wisdom is of a studio releasing any major marketing material if they’re not at Comic-Con — they’re bound to get ignored — but that said, those who will be buying tickets for “Moneyball” probably don’t care about whatever is happening in San Diego anyway.

The first poster for “Moneyball” has landed and it confirms two things that the mainstream public will need to know before deciding whether or not to fork over cash for this one: It stars Brad Pitt and it’s about baseball. A dramedy of sorts, that an early TV spot is kind of pitching as a “Field Of Dreams” inspirational tale, “Moneyball” centers on Billy Beane (Pitt) and Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), the GM and assistant GM that made the 2002 Oakland A’s a highly competitive Major League Baseball team (Beane took them to a AL West Division title) using a modern analytical sabermetrics system, despite having a completely budgeted, low-rent team that were initially the laughing stock of baseball early on in the season. Basically, it’s a story of the “little train that could” told through the prism of America’s greatest pastime, and frankly, by what we’re seeing so far, it looks like a solid triple which is fine by us.

“Moneyball” swings for the fences on September 23rd. Full poster below. [HeyUGuys]
