Monkey Vs. Horse: Spoilerific Comic-Con Clip For ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Picks Up The Pace

We’re still on something of a knife-edge about “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes,” two weeks away from the film‘s release: talented director Rupert Wyatt and performance capture star Andy Serkis have talked a good talk so far, and elements of it have been intriguing, but the trailers for the most part have been a mixed bag. Unsurprisingly, Fox were out in force with the film on Day 1 of Comic-Con yesterday, with both Wyatt and Serkis on hand to talk up the film, and debuting a new clip, focusing on the third-act ape revolution that looks to hold most of the big action. That clip has now made its way online.

And you know what? We’re impressed. Glimpses of these big sequences have been seen in the past, but the scale and scope has only just been made really apparent, and if nothing else, Wyatt shows a very impressive handle on the action, not to mention the effects, which get more impressive the closer we get to release. Somehow, what we were concerned might seem a little silly (and, let’s be honest, who knew there were so many apes knocking around San Francisco waiting for the revolution?) seems more plausible here. Also, Draco Malfoy gets blasted with a hose, which is good value for money.

ALSO, A MONKEY FIGHTS A MOTHERFUCKING HORSE.

We’re not 100% in the tank on this one yet: James Franco is still a concern, for instance, having seemed firmly on autopilot in earlier clips. But we’re certainly more intrigued than we’ve been before, and word from the Hall H floor is strong. The film will start screening in the next few weeks, so we’ll find out if it’s worked out before the movie opens on August 5th. Check the clip out below; be warned however, it does give away a fair bit, including what seems to be the death of a major character.
