Also A Sneak Peek At Alexander Payne’s ‘The Descendants
Ah, the sour taste of buttered popcorn is dissipating and the headier airs of the fall film festival circuit are upon us, as peeks at the films vying for awards are going to be coming in full force.
By all accounts, Roman Polanski‘s “Carnage” is shaping up to be an actor’s showcase with Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz starring in the New York-set story about two sets of middle-class parents who meet for dinner after their children get into a fight at school. D-R-A-M-A , right? Well, perhaps not entirely. Filmspoons has some new pics of the film and they point to something that will have a comic edge with Waltz drying off Reilly’s cell phone with a hair dryer and Foster using perfume to give her flowers a scent. At the very least, it should be a pretty probing look at the absurdities of the upper middle class. Also promising is that the single setting location of the film definitely seems opened up in these pics.
Roman Polanski’s film will be a major player this fall. Already set to premiere in Venice ,the New York Film Festival announced this afternoon that “Carnage” will be the opening film of the festival. It’s definitely another big film to hit the festival after “The Social Network” nabbed the slot last year and sorry TIFF folks, as it will be making its North American Premiere in New York that means no “Carnage” for Toronto.
But don’t get too down, TIFF-goers because you’ll be getting Alexander Payne‘s “The Descendants,” and it’s definitely one of the most anticipated films of the year. USA Today has snagged a new look at the film and, yeah, expect a whole lotta George Clooney. Co-written by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, “The Descendants” follows the story of a wealthy Hawaiian man named Matt King (Clooney), who takes his daughters (Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller) on a road trip to find the man his wife has been having an affair with after a boating accident leaves her critically injured. Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Judy Greer, Robert Forster, Mary Birdsong and Nick Krause all co-star in the film with Payne describes as, “a drama with a light touch. Or it aspires to have a light touch.”
“Carnage” opens on November 18th, “The Descendants” hits on November 23rd.
