While it’s definitely one of our most anticipated films still to come this year, Andrea Arnold‘s “Wuthering Heights” has also been the tightest kept under wraps. A new take on the famed tale, the film has a script by Olivia Hetreed (”Girl with a Pearl Earring”) and boasts a cast of smaller names including newcomer James Howson as the tortured Heathcliff being joined by Kaya Scodelario as Cathy and Nichola Burley as Isabella Linton. The film wrapped last fall and seemed like a contender for this year’s Cannes Film Festival and obviously, it wasn’t part of the lineup. So all signs now point to a fall bow and it looks like Arnold’s take on the material is going to be something quite unexpected.
MusicWeek reports that Grammy nominated folk sensation Mumford & Sons have penned “Enemy,” a new song that will play over the end credits to the film. Arnold saw the band in concert and the rest, as they say, is history. “The band saw the film and came out from the screening room very inspired. Two days later they had two songs which Andrea loved equally. It was a brilliant creative experience for everyone involved,” said the band’s manager Adam Tudhope.
It’s not clear if the other tune will feature in the film or not, but with at least one new contribution from the hugely popular band gracing the soundtrack, it will definitely shine a fresh light on the film and we wonder who else might make an appearance. This definitely won’t be your grandma’s “Wuthering Heights” and we’re excited to see what Arnold’s distinctive eye and gritty realism bring to the material. No release dates just yet but look out for the film this fall at a festival near you.
