New Posters For Miranda July’s ‘The Future,’ ‘Melancholia,’ ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’ & More

Here’s an update of a few one sheets you might be seeing during your next trip to the theater.

First up, a one sheet has arrived for Miranda July‘s highly buzzed sophomore feature “The Future.” The film, which our man at Sundance raved was “surreal, precious, devastating and brilliant,” focuses on an L.A. couple (July and Hamish Linklater) who are intent on adopting a cat they rescued but soon realize that when the cat is released from medical care in a month, their lives will change, be set, connected by responsibility and care to a future both unimaginable and wholly predictable. The twist? The film is narrated by the cat named Paw Paw. And music heads take note: Jon Brion scored the film. “The Future” hits on July 29th. [Vulture]

Cannes kicks off next week, and festivalgoers will be bracing themselves for “Melancholia,” Lars von Trier‘s latest exercise in angst. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgård, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier, the film centers on two sisters and their differing reactions to the impending doom of the planet Earth. Fun! As you can tell from the latest one-sheet, this is sure to be a real bundle of laughs. Or not. The film will arrive in theaters later this year via Magnolia and get ready to sit down for a while — this one runs two hours and two twenty minutes long. [RecentMoviePosters]

After getting delayed by the whole Miramax fiasco, the Guillermo Del Toro produced “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” is finally making its way to theaters via FilmDistrict. Directed by Troy Nixey and starring Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison, the film—a remake of 1973 TV movie—centers on a family that moves into a derelict house, only to experience the unveiling of some terrifying creatures. And hey, that’s a pretty snazzy, old school one sheet. The film opens on August 12th. [Fangoria]

Once again, another rom-com centered around a girl who just can’t find the right man is on the way, this time in the form of “What’s Your Number” which will be going for some R-rated laughs with the premise. Starring Anna Faris, the film tells the story of a young woman who decides to revisit her exes to see if she missed Mr. Right because some stupid magazine article said that any woman who sleeps with more than twenty dudes is far less likely to get married. Quel horreur! So yeah, that explains all the numbers in the heart on the poster. The movie will dial you up on September 30th. [RopeOfSilicon]

Finally, a couple of U.K. posters for “The Beaver” and….yeah, you can probably guess that the graphic designer left early that day. Pretty ugly all around. But for a movie starring Hollywood’s biggest pariah right now, Mel Gibson, we’re not surprised the marketing budget is pretty modest on this one. The film opens in limited release this weekend, heads to Cannes next week and hits U.K. shores on June 17th. [Film Shaft]
