Paul Schneider is an actor who is long overdue for more recognition. The actor broke out in David Gordon Green‘s “All the Real Girls” and has since amassed a varied and strong body of work with turns in “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Bright Star,” “Lars and the Real Girl” and even an early stint on “Parks and Recreation.” This year alone he’s mixed up as well, taking a role in the period drama “Water For Elephants” and in Christoph Honore‘s musical Cannes closer “Les bien-aimés.” But his next move is mystifying and we hope isn’t the start of a downward trend for the actor.
Variety reports that Schneider has joined “The Baby Makers” another film from the increasingly unfunny comedy troupe Broken Lizard. Once again with Jay Chandrasekhar at the helm, the film will follow “a married couple who fail to conceive after months of trying, prompting the husband to enlist his friends’ help to rob a Pasadena sperm bank, where he made a deposit as a young man.” Schneider will play the man in question with Broken Lizard regulars Kevin Heffernan (as the crazy best friend), Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske all set to appear. Chandrasekhar will also take a role as an Estonian master thief [eyeroll].
Listen, we like dumb funny shit as much as the next guy — in fact “Super Troopers” still rules — but have the Broken Lizard gang made anything even close to that film in terms of inspired hilarity since? Nope. Anyway, the low-budget film, produced by the same folks who brought you “Insidious” begins lensing this summer. Here’s hoping something better comes Schneider’s way soon.
