Paul Walker is a bit of a conundrum. While he’s one of the stars of the long-running “Fast & Furious” franchise, and while he’s had some modest successes on his own — “Takers,” “Running Scared,” uh “Eight Below” — he’s not quite a proven leading man on his own either. However, it seems the actor knows which side his bread is buttered on and his next film is another wheelman effort.
Variety reports that Walker will star and executive produce the indie thriller “Vehicle 19.” The Black List approved script is written by Mukunda Michael Dewil, who will also be directing, and the story follows “an American man with a rap sheet who travels to South Africa and finds himself unknowingly transporting a hostage to testify against a corrupt police force.” Not exactly the most original idea in the world but we’d imagine there’s more to it if it got some Black List buzz.
Anyway, cameras will get rolling in August in South Africa and it should be interesting to see how it plays out. The trade suggests that Walker’s popularity will grow thanks to “Fast Five” but since that didn’t happen with the past movies, and since people only watch those movies to see shit explode and not for the actors in particular, we’re not sure how much bearing it will have on his career. “Vehicle 19” will probably hit sometime next year.
