Believe it or not, it’s been a staggering seven years since Alexander Payne‘s last feature film, the smash hit “Sideways.” In the interim he’s been developing a few projects, producing “Hung” for HBO, as well as the recent comedy “Cedar Rapids,” and he even contributed what is arguably the best short of the omnibus “Paris je t’aime” the closing segment “14e arrondissement,” starring the excellent Margo Martindale. Well, Payne is finally coming back with a new feature and it looks primed to be another critical favorite.
Co-written by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, “The Descendants” follows the story of a wealthy Hawaiian man named Matt King (George Clooney), who takes his daughters (Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller) on a road trip to find the man his wife has been having an affair with after a boating accident leaves her critically injured. Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Judy Greer, Robert Forster, Mary Birdsong and Nick Krause all co-star in the film which has already seen a website launch for the flick with a very brief new clip. And the slow roll marketing continues with a nice new one sheet for the pic that seems to capture the wistful tone.
“The Descendants” will hit theaters on December 6th and if we were gambling men, we’d put money on a TIFF premiere this fall. Full poster below. [IMDB]
