If you’re going to remake a movie, might as well go all the way, right? At least that’s the thinking behind Rod Lurie‘s upcoming take on Sam Peckinpah‘s controversial “Straw Dogs.”
The director has tweeted (via JoBlo) his poster for his upcoming film and it’s pretty much the exact same one sheet from forty years ago, except with James Marsden instead of Dustin Hoffman, while Alexander Skarsgård is distractingly Photoshopped into the lens. Meh. It feels kind of lazy — surely the marketing team could’ve strained their brains a little harder? But understandably, the film is a ridiculously tough sell, telling the story of a timid man whose wife is brutally raped and he must defend his home against the perpetrators all in attempt to define his manhood. The original was a difficult sit, and the remake is said to be not much easier.
Kate Bosworth stars as the woman in the center of the conflict, and after a long wait, the film will hit theaters on September 16th. Check out the poster versus the original below.
