While the inevitable comparisons will be made to Steven Soderbergh‘s forthcoming “Contagion,” first time feature filmmaker Carl Tibbetts seems to have taken a much different angle on the virus thriller than Soderbergh’s globe-spanning flick.
Quiet Earth has dug up what looks to be sales trailer for the film (and thus, it’s likely to be yanked soon enough so watch while you can) for the flick and it looks be a purely psychological cat-and-mouse game. Starring Cillian Murphy, Thandie Newton and Jamie Bell, the film follows a husband and wife (Murphy and Newton) who rent a remote island cottage while trying to repair their marriage. One day an injured soldier washes up on the beach, and warns them that everybody on the mainland has been killed by an airborne virus. Though it seems to give away most of the film, it looks pretty damn compelling and it’s nice to Murphy and Bell switch up their personas going for straight man and crazy dude respectively.
No word yet on when it will hit, but Sony just picked up the North American rights. Check it below. Poster via Shadow & Act.
